Awe Well Privacy Policy

Awe Well is a small wellbeing app that gives you a daily prompt to notice awe and wonder, and lets you write or speak a short reflection. It is operated by Awe Well, LLC ("Awe Well", "we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We collect as little as possible.

Information we collect

• Account information. When you sign in with Apple, we receive a unique identifier for your account and, only if you choose to share it, your name and email address (which may be Apple's private relay address). We use this to create and secure your account.
• Your reflections and preferences. The reflections you write or dictate, the awe "sources" you select, the prompts you save for later, and the prompts you mark as "not for me." This is the content that makes the app yours.
• Approximate location (optional). Only if you turn on "Tailor to where I am" in Settings, the app uses your device's approximate location to look up the local time of day and current weather, so a prompt can fit the moment. Your location is used on the spot and never stored by us. It is off by default, and you can turn it off at any time.
• Location for "Somewhere new" (optional). If you turn on "Somewhere new" in Settings, the app can notice when you have arrived somewhere new and point out one real thing nearby worth a look. This uses your device's location, including in the background if you grant "Always" access, only to detect that you have moved and to look up nearby places. Your precise location is never sent to our servers or stored; it stays on your device. It is off by default, and you can turn it off at any time.

We count actions, never content. To understand whether Awe Well is working, we keep simple counts of a few structural moments, like the app being opened or a reflection being saved. These counts record that something happened, never what you wrote: no reflection text, no titles, nothing you typed or said ever enters them, and this is enforced by the server itself, which rejects anything beyond a short fixed list of event names. The counts live in our own database (Supabase, below), not with an analytics company.

We do not collect your contacts or advertising identifiers, we do not use cookies or cross-site tracking, and we show no ads.

How we use your information

• To create your account and keep your reflections safe across devices.
• To generate a daily prompt tailored to the sources you picked and to steer away from prompts you disliked.
• If you turn it on, to tailor a prompt to your local time of day and weather.
• If you turn on "Somewhere new," to notice when you've arrived somewhere new, find one real nearby place worth a look, and send you a notification about it. This is scheduled and detected on your device.
• If you turn on the daily reminder, to send you a gentle notification at the time you choose. These reminders are scheduled on your device.
• To respond to you if you contact us for support.

Voice reflections

If you choose to speak a reflection, the speech-to-text transcription happens on your device using Apple's built-in speech recognition. We do not record, upload, or store any audio. Only the resulting text, which you can edit before saving, becomes part of your reflection.

Spoken conversations

Some plans include spoken conversations with an in-app companion. These are different from voice reflections, and they are always something you choose to start.

• When you start one, your voice is streamed in real time to ElevenLabs, our voice partner, so the companion can hear and answer you. We have configured ElevenLabs not to save call audio: no recording of your voice is kept, by us or by them.
• The conversation itself is not stored. When it ends, it is gone.
• Share your recent reflections (off until you turn it on) sends your last few journal entries with that conversation as context, so the companion can meet you where you have been.
• Let it remember you (off until you turn it on) allows the companion to keep short notes, a brief summary of what each conversation was about, and an evolving written picture of how it understands you. To write these, the conversation's text is processed once, at the end, by Anthropic's Claude, which does not retain it. Everything the companion keeps is stored with the same protections as your reflections, all of it is shown in full in the app's settings, and you can delete any of it, or all of it with your account, at any time.

How prompts are generated, and the services we use

We rely on a few trusted services to run Awe Well:

• Anthropic (Claude API) generates your daily prompts. To do this we send limited context: the awe sources you selected, the text of a few recent prompts, and prompts you have disliked. We do not send the reflections you write to Anthropic.
• ElevenLabs powers spoken conversations, only when you start one. See "Spoken conversations" above for exactly what is shared and what is never kept.
• Supabase stores your account, your reflections, and any companion notes you have allowed, in a secure database. Your data is protected so that only your signed-in account can read it, and it is transmitted over encrypted connections.
• Apple provides Sign in with Apple for authentication.
• Open-Meteo provides local weather. Only if you turn on location tailoring or "Somewhere new," your device sends it your approximate coordinates (rounded to about a kilometer) to get current conditions. We send no account information, and no identifier that ties the request to you.
• Wikipedia helps "Somewhere new" find real places nearby. Only if that feature is on, your device queries Wikipedia directly with your approximate coordinates (rounded to about a kilometer) to find a nearby place and its public description. This request goes straight from your device to Wikipedia, not through our servers. Only the resulting place name and description, never your coordinates, are sent to our servers to write the guided visit.
• Plausible Analytics counts visits to our public website, awe-well.com, without cookies, without personal data, and without following you across the web. It runs on the website only: the app and your journal, including app.awe-well.com, carry no analytics script from anyone.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and everything associated with it at any time, right in the app: Settings, then Delete account. You can also ask us by emailing the address below, and we will remove it.

The website waitlist

If you leave your email address on awe-well.com, we store it in our own database, along with your answers to the short quiz if you took it, and we use it for one thing: telling you about the launch. It is never sold, never shared, and never used for anything else. Email us at the address below any time and we will remove you from the list.

Children

Awe Well is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page.
